Breakfast Inn, touted by Westword as one of the best diners in Denver, is closing on June 8, after almost fifty years at 6135 East Evans Avenue. Current owner David Frieder bought it from his ex-father-in-law 21 years ago; he founded it in 1976. "The BI has been there for the community and the community has ALWAYS been there for the BI," Frieder posted on Facebook. "After a year of fighting the good fight, our lease was not renewed and the property has been sold. We would love to see every single person who has been through so much with us before we close."

But if you don't make it by then, Frieder has a Broomfield restaurant, EAT! Food & Drink, that serves breakfast, brunch and lunch, including some favorite Breakfast Inn dishes.

In their comments about Breakfast Inn on Westword Facebook and Instagram, a few readers egg each other on, while others lament the loss of another old-school spot. Says Peter:
Damn. They have the best pancakes in Denver. I just ate there yesterday.
Counters Dave:
No great loss here. Their breakfast used to be great, but the ham was ridiculously thin.
Responds Lenny:
My favorite breakfast spot near me.
Recalls Aron:
Went there once. We waited for around 45 minutes and no one took our order. Didn't go back. So guess I'll never know if it was good.
Suggests Rebeka:
Worst mayor in the U.S. Mike Johnston is ruining Denver on purpose. The amount of restaurant closings in the past two years is tragic! It does not have to be this way, and yet...he won't back off his business-killing policies.
Responds David:
When was the last time you visited said restaurant?
Adds Reilly:
The business is closing because the landlord is selling the building. How is that the mayor's fault?
Wonders Sue:
It made it almost fifty years? How sad. What other old-school spots are still around where I can get a good breakfast?
Denver's definitely lost some of its best diners, including Breakfast King and the Denver Diner. What's your favorite breakfast place in the metro area?
