For all the debate over the restaurant relief bill (up for discussion at the Colorado Legislature on March 3), the hottest topic on the Denver dining scene this week was the abrupt closing of all but one of the nineteen Del Taco locations in the state. While the Grand Junction Del Taco is still serving, the eighteen spots along the Front Range, which all operated under another franchisee, are shuttered...at least for now.

“Del Taco is proud to have been serving the state of Colorado since 2003 and we appreciate the ongoing support of our loyal guests," a spokesperson for the California-based chain told Westword. "At this time, our Denver and Colorado Springs franchise locations are temporarily closed. We will re-open these locations as soon as possible and will share updates as they become available. The Del Taco location in Grand Junction is owned and operated by a different franchisee and remains open for business. Thank you for your patience and support.”

The closures were the taco the town on the Westword Facebook page. Says Chris:
Sober people won't notice.
Adds Raymond:
They made Taco Bell seem decent.
Responds Art:
Del Taco was way better than Taco Bell, and so many options there. You can't even get a basic f'n tostada at Taco Bell. And much more affordable.
Adds Rob:
Best gringo hard shells at any chain. I'm fat, I know my stuff.
Wonders Alex:
Can we get Taco Cabana to come into the state?
Suggests Tim:
Turn all the locations into White Castle.
Adds Walt:
Hoping they get taken over by El Pollo Loco.
Concludes Jason:
Damn this is really going to hurt the Pepto and Imodium sales here, though…CVS might have to close some more locations, too.
