In their comments on the Westword Facebook post of the sad news, readers aren't surprised. Says Raquel:
This doesn’t surprise me. I hate that store.Responds Stephanie:
Funny. I actually enjoy shopping at that one. It's always clean and the lines aren't long when I go in. Everything is always stocked and I've never had a bad interaction. I usually walk the mile it takes to get there for my grocery shopping cuz it beats going across the street to the Walmart.Wonders Paul:
Worst grocery stores, or biggest collection of whiny crybabies? I could see either being true.Replies Sue:
If you have ever lived in another state and shop there, you would see a huge difference. Coloradans don’t know what they’re missing.Adds Aubree:
There isn’t a single grocery store that has it all in Denver. I end up shopping at multiple stores for different things. It’s annoying.Seconds Brian:
The grocery store scene (not including TJ’s, Whole Foods and Sprouts) in Denver is atrocious compared to other metros in the country. Both King Soopers and Safeway here leave a ton to be desired.Responds Brandon:
This is how you know people have never been to the south! Oklahoma grocery stores are the worst! I remember the first time I walked into a King Soopers, I thought, "Wow so this is how 'rich' people shop." The stores were amazing compared to our ghettomarts in Oklahoma and really anywhere in the south. But I guess that's the difference between Colorado and the third world states of the South.:Offers William:
I'm visiting in Virginia right now and wow, Wegmans is so awesome! When I'm home in Denver I gave up on King Soopers during the last strike and now shop Sprouts.Says Carey:
I think the workers at most King Soopers are terrific. The problem is the management. Because some days you can see it on their face that they are undervalued. And it's a shame. Especially with how much companies like Kroger make. It shouldn't take workers strikes for companies like Kroger to do the right thing and pay their employees a generous wage.Concludes Michael:
After Kroger decides to close this location, the next article in Westword will complain about the food desert in GVR.Have you ever been to the Green Valley Ranch King Soopers? Where do you shop in metro Denver? Post a comment or share your thoughts at [email protected].
