Restaurant Roll Call: Every Opening and Closing in April

Another busy month of openings includes expansions of local concepts Birdcall, HashTAG and Los Dos Potrillos. And yes, Cracker Barrel came to town.

April was a busy month for foodies, with four new local options at Denver International Airport, including Tocabe: A Native American Eatery). Meanwhile, two dozen more restaurants in metro Denver opened their doors to hungry diners (that would be us) looking for everything from Asian fare to quality Mex — Los Dos Potrillos finally opened a spot in Denver property! — with burgers, pizza and chicken in between.

In fact, the next big food franchise to break out of Denver — joining the ranks of Chipotle, Smashburger, Modern Market, Quiznos, Tokyo Joe’s and MAD Greens — might be the plucky Birdcall, which last month opened a shop in Fort Collins and one in Red Rocks, where they'll be serving hungry concert-goers for every show this musical summer of stars. The company has already expanded to Arizona, and could go further soon.

Speaking of national chains, Cracker Barrel finally came to Denver, where it debuted its Southern-style spread and big servings in the Central Park neighborhood. Asians are always a presence on our dining scene; the legacy group of Japanese restaurants led by Sushi Den has now opened a chef's prerogative omakase restaurant named Kizaki, after award-winning chef and Denver sushi pioneer Toshi Kizaki.

Although Asian food gets plenty of attention and respect for its ethnic range, Latine food often gets lost under the huge "Mexican" umbrella. But Catira, which opened in April in the Denver Tech Center, hopes to teach diners a thing or two about Latin American culinary tradition.“The Venezuelan food that we’ll have here is the core cuisine of Venezuela. This is the street food. This is what people make at home,” says co-owner Manuel Sucre.

And the Yemen Grill just opened a sibling restaurant, Yemen Grill & Cafe, near the University of Denver.

Here are all the openings and closings (and a couple of reopenings) in April 2025, with more to come as we move into May:
