Support the independent voice of Denver and help keep the future of Westword free.
Food Network magazine just crowned King's Chef Diner in Colorado Springs with the best breakfast in Colorado award in its July/August cover story touting the best breakfasts in the country.
It wasn't "The Thing" (The Food Network recently featured "The Thing" in its Outrageous Food show) or "The Grump" -- the mountainous, perennial favorites and super attention-getters on the menu at King's Chef -- that sealed the deal. It was the much more plain-Jane sounding breakfast burrito.
Though it pales before the mound of ingredients in "The Thing" and "The Grump," the $7.95 burrito is nothing to shake a stick at. It comes with two scrambled eggs, sausage, grilled onions and hash browns topped with green chile or country gravy and shredded cheese.
