Chef/restaurateur Troy Guard made a big splash with the opening of Mister Tuna in RiNo's Industry building last week, but not so far away, the second outpost of TAG Burger Bar quietly grilled its last burger. The neighborhood eatery at 3759 Lipan Street closed on Sunday, July 17, after taking over where Sunnyside Burger Bar left off at the end of 2015.

Guard plans to reopen the burger bar early next year in a considerably more desirable location, at 3948 West 32nd Avenue — across the street from Solitaire and in the same building as Blue Pan Pizza in West Highland.

Here's the message from the TAG Burger Bar Facebook page:

TAG Burger Bar Highlands has closed its doors.
THANK YOU to all of our wonderful guests! We look forward to hosting you at TAG Burger Bar at 12th and Madison or one of our other TAG Restaurant Group concepts in the future.

The original TAG Burger Bar opened in 1222 Madison Street in 2012 as a concept change from Guard's first venture, the Madison Street Grill, at that address.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
