While the University of Denver was hunting for a new mascot -- a process that's been put on hold for now -- the Pioneer, the DU neighborhood hangout that's one of almost two dozen bars in the Little Pub Co. group, was getting its own upgrade. After closing for a few weeks to do some heavy lifting inside, the Pioneer reopened last weekend to unveil the renovated bar, complete with a garage door that opens to the outside. Still to come: the expanded outdoor patio and a rooftop deck. Boone also pops up on the menu -- and for the Pioneer's best marg, ask the bartender for the off-the-list Boone.
