Nothing can take the place of an actual trip to Italy to explore the language, culture and cuisine -- but this is probably the next-best thing. Trattoria on Pearl, 1430 Pearl Street in Boulder, is hosting an Italian class tonight on the region of Sardegna. The syllabus includes a three-course dinner -- one of which is prepared table-side, with the recipe included -- plus Italian language and culture lessons.

Admission is $35 -- much cheaper than a plane ticket across the pond -- and you can make reservations at 303-544-0008. Another Sardegna-centric class will take place on Tuesday, November 17, and classes on the regions of Lazio/Roma are scheduled for November 19 and 24.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
