For the not-so-thrifty holiday shopper, Marczyk Fine Foods has just the thing: black and white truffles.
I just got word from Barbara Macfarlane that the store at 770 East 17th Avenue has taken in a shipment of white truffles from Alba and Burgundy blacks -- right in time for the holiday season! Those Burgundy blacks might be nice (and are a steal at just $2.69 a gram), but the real prize are the Alba whites, arguably the best you can get and described by Plutarch as originating from the combined effects of “water, earth, heat and thunderbolts.” (Thanks to Luxuryweb.com for digging up that quote for me.)
If you're interested in learning more, call the store at 303-894-9499 and ask for Pete or Kevin. They’ll arrange a showing for you and, if you ask nice, might even do the handover in the back alley by the dumpsters so you can feel like you’re buying something illegal in order to justify the cost. -- Jason Sheehan
