In the past, Alana Eve Burman and Teresa Sparks, who together make up Boulder’s Pickpocket Theatre, just worked for the Boulder International Fringe Festival. This year, they’re also performing in the fest, something Sparks says they owe to the Fringe’s own growth as an organization. The appropriately titled Moxie,written by Burman and Sparks, performed by Burman and directed by Joan Bruemmer, opens tonight at 6 p.m. at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, 1750 13th Street, Boulder.
“It’s a comedy in three acts about women and their relationships to fame in the twentieth century,” Sparks explains. “Alana plays three different characters, one in each act. The first act takes place in the silent-film era and is styled as a silent film, the second is about a WWII USO girl, and the third act is about an office girl in the ’50s.” But don’t expect this piece to be bogged down by any major message. “It has a lot of serious themes, but it is a comedy,” Sparks points out.
