Dummy Daze

With the start of ski season, it’s time for all of the different resorts to start rolling out the red carpet and tempting skiers and riders to their runs. And sure, there will be concerts at Vail Snow Daze, but the real attraction off I-70 is the fest’s third annual Dummy Gelunde World Championships, which take place today between 3 and 5 p.m.

More About

“It’s a really fun event,” enthuses media contact Natalie Fandrey. “It’s a great way to get people involved in a ski-related event; we get a lot of engineers and architects and just kids who work on the mountain and want to build dummies.”

It works like this: Participants (limited to 25 teams) build a dummy, attach it to skis or a snowboard and launch it off a giant on-snow jump; teams are judged for distance, air, creativity, takeoff, landing and crowd response. Past dummies have included toilets, stoves and military tanks -- and with a $5,000 first prize this year, the entries are bound to be more outrageous than ever. Visit www.vailsnowdaze.com.
