This latest offering from Lucio Duran, formerly of long-running experimental electronic outfit Blackcell, immediately recalls late-era Future Sound of London with its electro-organic sound. "The Machinist" is, roughly, a 140 bpm equivalent of jogging through darkened and deserted city streets with only sparking electrical wires lighting your way. "Infused With the Spiral" sounds like multiple alarm systems toned down for their musicality at the forefront, with an enigmatically foreboding tone and musical progression going on in the background. The opening of "Saber Rattling" sounds like it was recorded to suggest the broad vista of the open sea through distant, streaming synths. But once the beat kicks in, the song starts to live up to its title with a sharply textured, bristling sound. Overall, this EP is like Boards of Canada adopting a darkly industrial outlook.
