She's best known for such television roles as Sally Weaver on Seinfeld, where she played a tongue-in-cheek acerbic, funny standup comedian who made a career out of mocking Jerry; Suddenly Susan's Vickie Groener; and, most recently, Bravo's Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, which follows Griffin and her assistants as they scheme for publicity in Hollywood. She's also known for getting herself banned from an array of television shows, including The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Late Night With Conan O'Brien, Live With Regis and Kelly, Late Show With David Letterman, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The View (where she served as a co-host for a few months in 2007).
Why all the controversy? Well, Griffin's bread and butter has long been made poking fun at celebrities, from Mary-Kate Olsen to Paris Hilton, Star Jones to Miley Cyrus, Whitney Houston to Gwyneth Paltrow. If you like celebrity gossip and witty sarcasm, then you're gonna love Griffin, who performs tonight at 7 p.m. at the Buell Theatre in the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Tickets are $49.50 to $99.50 and available at www.ticketmaster.com or 303-893-4000.
