The Olympics may be over, but the games must go on, and tonight, you can hobnob with several heavy-hitting star athletes at the Make-a-Wish Foundation’s Sporting Affair: A Celebrity Waiter Dinner, at the Pepsi Center’s Ridgeline Room, 1000 Chopper Place. “The average wish costs $6,500, and we strive to serve approximately 300 Colorado children each year,” says Melissa Hawken Morris, director of communications for the Foundation, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. The event, hosted by former Denver Broncos running back Reggie Rivers, tips off at 6 p.m. with cocktails, a silent auction and dinner served by celebrity waiters: J.R. Smith and assistant coach John Welch from the Denver Nuggets; Denver Broncos Eddie Royal and Ebenezer Ekuban; Denver Broncos alumnus Rod Smith; and former Colorado Avalanche player Curtis Leschyshyn. Among the live-auction donations, notes Morris, is a private dinner for thirty cooked by the Denver FIVE: Barolo Grill chef Brian Laird; Matt Selby, from Vesta Dipping Grill; Troy Guard, exec chef of TAG; Jamey Fader, from the Big Red F Restaurant Group; and Tyler Wiard, from Elway’s Cherry Creek. Tickets are $100 per person; to snag yours, call 303-750-9474.
