May is the month for celebrating mothers, and at this weekend's production of My Mama Monologues, you can join in the celebration with local writers and actors as they tell true stories about their own moms.

The idea for the show originated in Maui four years ago with playwright Pat Masumoto, and versions of the production have been staged in Denver and Canada. "It's an interesting concept," says Carol Naff, the show's marketing director. "It's been produced in other cities by other people with different stories in each city, but some of the actors are performing stories that were submitted from around the world."

The is the second time My Mama Monologues has been presented in Denver, and this time it features funny, heartwarming tales about moms from a variety of Denver locals, including a performance by Kirk Montgomery of 9News and a story from Mayor Michael Hancock.

The program begins at 7:30 p.m. today and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Sharp Auditorium in the Hamilton Building of the Denver Art Museum, 100 West 14th Avenue Parkway. Tickets are $20.
