In the sea of California and New York cafes vying for the coveted American Institute of Architecture design award, there lurks a lone Colorado joint that wants to prove to the rest of the country -- namely New Yorkers and Californians -- that it's savvy design scheme can out-architect its competition.

Modmarket, the Boulder gourmet sandwich, salad and flatbread shop designed by Roth + Sheppard Architects, is one of five finalists in the Institute's nationwide cafe design contest, which also includes Sandwiched in New York City and URBNMRKT in Los Angeles.

The ultimate victor is determined by public vote, something owners Anthony Pigliacamp and Rob McColgan hope that you'll do by going to www.aialosangeles.org and clicking on the little Modmarket bubble. "It's not often that a Colorado based company can rope in a national design award, so do you part to show New York and Los Angeles that great design thrives right here in Colorado," pleads the duo.

If Modmarket wins, it'll throw a party, but in order to snag an invite, you've got to cast your vote. For them.
