As singer, guitarist and keyboardist for A Shoreline Dream, Ryan Policky helped sculpt that band’s lush “melodipsych” rock. In the Parallel Light, Policky teams up with Eddie Breidenbach, organist for the garage-rock band the Omens, to do something very different from what both players were doing previously. On Evans, the two create a number of gorgeous ambient soundscapes inspired by Mt. Evans, with Policky adding guitar parts and loops to layers of keyboards that both he and Breidenbach play. While writing material for the album, they had a wall of sci-fi cinema playing in the background, which helped shape the album’s ethereal quality. The sprawling, cinematic and, at times, haunting tunes that make up Evans are ideal for late-night chill sessions.
