There are many rumors about the pilgrims and beer. Some say they landed on Plymouth Rock because they ran out of the sudsy stuff.

Others claim they drank it on the voyage over because it was safer than water.

Whatever the truth, beer and pilgrims will always be tied to one another, and so therefore will Thanksgiving be a great time to drink it.

November 24 Thanksgiving’s not at your house? Then you don’t need to clean tonight. Put on your ugliest sweater and head down to FreshCraft, 1530 Blake Street, instead, where the restaurant will be hosting a ugly sweater contest starting at 7 p.m. The winner gets a $25 gift card. Drink specials include a holiday appropriate two-for-one Isolation Ales from Odell, $7 pumpkin spice martinis and the Up & Down shot and beer combo (Upslope IPA can and a Downslope Double Diamond Whiskey) for $8.50

November 25 Most restaurants are closed today, which is why you need to do the heavy lifting yourself. Hopefully, you got a couple six packs of holiday brews this week. Here’s a brown ale and apple stuffing recipe that should make Thanksgiving more interesting.

November 26 Not everyone has to wait in line on Black Friday. If you’re shopping – or not – in the Westminster area, head over to the Cheeky Monk’s new location in the Orchard Town Center from 7 to 10 a.m. for breakfast and drink specials. “We’ll have breakfast to-go items too so you can take something back to the one saving you a spot,” the place says. “Irish Monk Coffees, Snugglers, half-price draughts, croissant sandwiches, breakfast burritos & more.”

November 27 Dry Dock Brewing in Aurora hosts its second annual “slapdown” today between owner Kevin Delange and three of his brewers. Each designed and brewed a winter seasonal beer; drinkers get to decide which one is best. The drinking runs from noon to 5 p.m., although the winner will be announced around 4. The beers will remain on tap until they run out. Here are the contenders: Bill Eye (Head Brewer) – Malted Milk Stout on Nitro made with 150 pounds of malted milk Lachlan McLean (Assistant Brewer) – Belgian Quadrupel, has hints of plum, raisins, pineapple and pear. Walter Chleva (Assistant Brewer) – Frambozen, made with lots of raspberry puree Kevin DeLange (Brewer Emeritus) – Tripel (may not be ready in time)

November 28 It’s all over, thank god, and today is for resting, for recovering from the Thanksgiving holiday and for football. The Broncos take on the Rams today, and just a few blocks from Invesco Field, Strange Brewing is typically open before and during the game. If not, head over the Uptown Brothers Brewing, at 320 East Colfax, which has even more delicious craft beers on tap than it does TVs. And it has a lot of TVs.
