All eating contests are created equal — but some are more equal than others. Tonight’s inaugural Mezcal Taco Eating Contest rises above the rest simply because — well, have you ever eaten a taco? They’re a lot messier than your average hot dog, is all we’re saying.
The contest comprises a qualifier round, elimination round and a final head-to-head three-minute battle to see who can consume the most tacos in that time. A panel of what Mezcal promises are “expert taco judges” will tally the results and award prizes to the top three. First prize is a $150 bar tab, second prize is a $75 bar tab and third is a $50 bar tab. Admission to enter the contest is $10, and contestants will be capped at thirty — so arrive early to sign up. The official contest runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mezcal, 3230 East Colfax Avenue; for information, call 303-322-5219.
