The Front Range offers a plethora of striking vistas, and when you add in a gaggle of bulbous balloons floating in the deep blue skies, it’s a view that’s hard to beat. Unless, of course, you factor in an evening illumination of said balloons — perhaps adding some live music, historical re-enactments and a NASA tent with holographic video maps of the moon and Mars.
Sounds like the Rocky Mountain Balloon Festival has gotten even better: This year, there’s a wheelchair-accessible tethered hot-air balloon available for rides. The first ascent takes place this morning at 6:45 a.m., and a range of activities are scheduled throughout the weekend. The festival is held at Chatfield State Park, C-470 and Wadsworth Boulevard in Littleton; admission is free, and parking is $7 (or free with an annual state park pass).
