What dedicated ski bum would even think of starting another season of sliding without prepping for it at Warren Miller’s annual screen paean to the sport? That’s right. None, and zero. The Hollywood-born Miller’s been slapping out his high-energy ski-adventure flicks like hockey pucks for nearly sixty years, and the true believers will never stop coming back for more, because, as the octogenarian filmmaker often exhorts in his films, “Adventure is the invitation to common people to become uncommon.” Strap on some skis, dudes, and you’ll own the world.
Miller’s 58th annual release, Playground, will begin regenerating that invincible feeling later this year, but meanwhile, the West End Tavern, 926 Pearl Street in Boulder, is hosting weekly Countdown to Playground screenings, featuring a chronological retrospective of Miller favorites on the rooftop every Wednesday at sundown until the Playground premiere in early November. For a complete schedule leading up to the pre- and after-parties on November 7, go to www.the-westendtavern.com.
Wednesdays, 8:30 p.m. Starts: July 11. Continues through Nov. 7, 2007
