Traditional Kathak dancer master Pandit Chitresh Das and Emmy-winning tap-dancer Jason Samuels Smith met backstage at the 2004 American Dance Festival, and it was a match made in heaven: The former child prodigies shared a similar approach to dance, a passion for exploring the possibilities of rhythmic improvisation, and a belief that the arts can unite communities.
See them in action tonight and tomorrow night in India Jazz Suites, a Lakewood Cultural Center program including a traditional Kathak solo, tap-dancing and a collaborative composition between Das and a jazz trio. Tickets are $26, and the show is at 470 South Allison Parkway in Lakewood; call 303-987-7845 or visit www.lakewood.org.

Will you step up to support Westword this year?
At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $20,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
