Over the weekend, the New York Times broke the news that Jim Carroll, a thought-provoking poet who made several appearances in Denver and Boulder and whose 1978 memoir, The Basketball Diaries, was immortalized on the big screen in a 1995 film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, passed away from a heart attack. Carroll, equally as esteemed for his foray into punk, is probably best remembered for the song “People Who Died.” Sadly, looks like we can now safely add Carroll to that ever-growing list of lost amigos. Rest in peace, brother Jim.
