Keep Westword Free
We’re $3,500 away from our spring campaign goal!
We’re aiming to raise $20,000 by April 26. Your support ensures Westword can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
The ladies of Firehouse Quilts do it for free: They make snuggle-sized quilts that are donated to various agencies, from local fire departments to victim advocacy organizations, for children who just happen to need something cuddly and homemade to hug. And now they’re putting out a call to sewing enthusiasts everywhere to join them for a mass Sew-In, today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Make It Sew, 351 Englewood Parkway in Englewood. Machines, equipment, quilting supplies and ironing stations will all be provided.
“You don’t have to know how to quilt. If you can sew a straight line, that’s all you need,” promises spokeswoman Dusty Darrah. But if you show up, you’ll not only be doing a good deed, you’ll also be getting a mini-workshop in quilting from some of the best in the region. DIY or die! Advance registration is requested; call 303-761-4925. For information, go to www.firehousequilts.org.
