Good ‘Grass

What would happen if you took an elite bluegrass mandolinist — who also happens to be an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, playing the violin in jazz groups and a range of instruments with several new-age ensembles — and put him on stage with the only person in the world who can play Clawgrass, a unique method of banjo music that combines clawhammer banjo technique with the three-finger style of bluegrass picking? Well, you’d have something like tonight’s Colorado Bluegrass Music Society Festival, which features Canadian bluegrass mandolin player Emory Lester and Florida Clawgrass innovator Mark Johnson. Admission is a mere $12 in advance or $15 at the door ($8 in advance and $10 at the door for students and seniors), which makes this a can’t-miss performance all the way around.
