After years of grinding it out on her own, writing, recording and performing here and across the country on her own dime, truly embodying a grassroots, do-it-yourself approach, Angie Stevens is about to get a major boost from a well-regarded member of the music industry. Next month, the affable local songstress is heading to Kingston, New York, to spend a month recording with Grammy-winning producer Malcolm Burn, who, in addition to producing the String Cheese Incident, has also worked with Iggy Pop, Emmylou Harris, Patti Smith, Peter Gabriel and Daniel Lanois, among countless others. Stevens plans to release the disc this summer. — Dave Herrera
