What’s the only thing that could possibly be more fun than an elementary school field day? An adult field day — with beer — to raise money for a good cause. “We wanted to do something that stood out,” says Eva Magdalenski of the MS Young Professionals Network. “You know, when you were little, field day was so fun. We don’t get to do field days anymore, so it was the perfect excuse.”

For those who were home schooled or have chosen to block out all painful grade-school memories, field day was that special time when classes were suspended for an all-day recess of silly sack and egg-and-spoon races and kickball games. Today’s Adult Field Day includes Wiffle-ball games, a relay race, badminton, beer pong and (Eva’s favorite) the shoe kick. “You kind of let your shoe hang off and kick it as far as you can,” she says. Eva, who works for Comedy Works, expects beer pong will be the most competitive event. “It was very intense,” she says of the beer pong at the last field day. “We had a bunch of comics come out, and they were the referees.”

Registration starts at 1 p.m. today at Observatory Park, South Fillmore Street and East Evans Avenue, though teams are encouraged to register in advance at www.msypn.org. It costs $100 for each team of four. Players must be over 21, and each team must have at least one female member. Beer is included in the registration cost. The event is from 2 to 4 p.m. and all proceeds benefit the Rocky Mountain MS Center. In two drawings, participants can win a pair of round-trip flights on Southwest. For questions, call Annalise Sorensen at 303-788-4030, ext 100.
