Christmas is coming early for carnivores who can make it to one of the two metro area Morton’s The Steakhouse locations tonight (1710 Wynkoop Street, or 8480 E. Belleview Avenue) from 5 to 6 p.m., when both steakeries will be celebrating the chain’s 31st anniversary by dishing out free mini prime cheeseburgers.

The meat mecca is known for the its “Million Dollar” burger, and credits founder and chef Klaus Fritsch for its creation. Fritsch met Morton’s co-founder, Arnie Morton, while the two were working at the Playboy Clubs in the 1970s. While Fritsch was experimenting with a burger recipe at the Montreal location, Morton declared that Fritsch’s burger was the best he had ever tasted, and the rest, as they say, is history.

The complimentary mini cheeseburgers will be offered in the bar only, and you’ll have to pay for the beer to wash everything down, but hey, it is Morton’s after all.
