Although roughly half of this album was recorded at the legendary Inner Ear Studio in Arlington, Virginia, and the other half at Denver’s Helmet Room, there’s an impressive consistency throughout. In an era when many artists try to fit into a narrow niche, the Construct splices together elements of ambient electronic music, traces of experimental hardcore and heavy doses of non-Western music. The results will appeal to those who appreciate artists who strive to take music to new places while remaining tuneful — and in that regard, there’s plenty to like here. Fans of Juno will appreciate the moments of intense soundscaping, while contemplative songs like “Lucid” and “Broken” are uplifting paeans to the resilience of the human spirit.
