Although this record was put to tape around a decade ago, the resurgence of psychedelically tinged indie pop has made the Christines’ music both ahead of its time and eminently contemporary. Uniting elements of space rock, indie pop, psychedelic garage rock and power pop, the band has progressed beyond its excellent first two records, forging a sound uniquely its own. Guitar sounds swirl around each other beautifully while the rhythm section provides each track’s ebullient momentum. Clearly a good deal of time was spent putting together the track arrangements, because the pacing is impeccable. Echoes of the Lucy Show’s dark, cadenced urgency and the Prisoners’ free-flying melodies can be heard throughout, but with this consistently worthwhile offering, the Christines have come into their own.
