You just naturally expect Design After Dark, the annual benefit for the Denver Art Museum Design Council, to be a little cooler than other glitzy fundraisers: uptown enough for society bigwigs (or at least the ones with artsy pretensions), downtown enough for the rest of us cutting-edge design groupies.

And this gala always delivers. For one thing, it keeps changing locations to keep up with what’s trendy. This year’s event is at RedLine, a buzz-worthy new studio/gallery/event space at 2350 Arapahoe Street. Then there’s the urbane theme: “VS,” a design challenge that asked local designers and artists to create new works for auction that were inspired by a randomly selected piece from the DAM collection, as well as by a “verse” or quote expressing opposing sensibilities. And the setting: “Similar to last year, the look and feel will be like a gallery space, with the auction items displayed on pedestals and lit like unique pieces of art, which of course they really are,” notes DAD’s Angela Brill.

The party begins tonight at 7 p.m.; admission ranges from $40 to $65. To get tickets or make a pre-bid, go to www.blacktie-colorado.com; for more information, call 720-913-0046.
