Land of Lincoln

There’s no evidence that Abraham Lincoln ever set foot on the land that would become Colorado while he was alive, but the late president is making plenty of appearances here this week. After a special, one-hour sneak preview of the PBS film Looking for Lincoln, Colorado state historian Bill Convery, University of Denver professor and Abraham Lincoln scholar Susan Schulten and University of Colorado African-American Studies professor and chair William King will present a panel discussion of Lincoln’s legacy in our times. The free program begins tonight at 7 p.m. at DU’s Sturm Hall, 2000 East Asbury Avenue, and seats are limited; to reserve a spot, call 303-866-4648. Rocky Mountain PBS will broadcast the full, two-hour Looking for Lincoln on February 11.

And for still more on the life of Lincoln, Colorado Christian University Library, at 8787 West Alameda Avenue in Lakewood, is hosting Abraham Lincoln: A Man of His Time, a Man for All Times, through February 25. The six-panel traveling exhibit takes Lincoln from his days as a self-educated frontier lawyer to the president who guided a divided nation through the Civil War; CCU will also offer related lectures and concerts through the month.
