For all those who give pom-pom critters for birthdays, feel an urge to stick googly eyes on everything or just occasionally get a twitch to fold some origami, we bring you “Gettin’ Crafty” where we feature a craft you can easily make with minimal supplies and limited finances. While it may be a stereotype that crafting people love their cats, in this case, it’s true. Which is why, this week, we present cat-specific couture.
Supplies
- T-shirt. I used a shirt made for a 12-month old, which was perfect.
- Puff paint. You can use iron-on letters or screen print, but to me, nothing says homemade like glitter puff paint.
Instructions
1. Cut off the shirtsleeves so it will be easier to put it on the furry feline.
2. Put newspaper inside the shirt so the paint won’t bleed through.
3. Paint the slogan you have created for your cat, or the sports team they are representing, or a message that needs to be delivered on the t-shirt. For my “husky” cat, Frankie, who moves swiftly only when she hears the food bag rustling, hers says “Frankie Says Relax”.
4. Let it dry for a few hours.
5. Put the shirt on the cat, very very gently. As a warning, the shirt probably won’t last for very long on the cat. You may have experience with this from Halloween costumes. Don’t force it, but get a picture.
