Last Friday night, a breathless crowd of lucky ticketholders, mostly Denver Art Museum members, took their seats in the DAM’s Ponti Hall for one of the museum’s most anticipated events of the year: an exclusive performance featuring the famed Chicago artist’s Soundsuit creations, wearable art pieces that move to their own swishing beat, though propelled by human movement from within. Those who weren’t so lucky crowded halls and lounges throughout the building to watch streaming footage of the event, which included dances choreographed by local troupes Third Law, Wonderbound and Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theatre. The people who managed to catch the show all agreed that something extraordinary took place that night — but if you weren’t among them, our photographer Brandon Marshall was there, shooting both the accompanying Nick Cave exhibit and the live performance. Here’s a taste of what he captured; visit the complete slideshow for the bigger picture.
