Massive movement: Just received word that Massive Music America, the independent promotions firm launched in 2003 in association with Helmet Room Recordings, which has handled campaigns for an array of artists including the Legendary Pink Dots, Beta-Lactam Ring Records and Edward Ka-Spel, among others, is shutting its doors. The company will continue to oversee some select promotional efforts under the Helmet Room Recordings banner, and has issued word that it will be making part of its promotional database available via CollegeRadiolists.com to bands or imprints that think they might benefit from having access to such contacts.
Growing Ivey: After taking the scene by storm a few years back, Melissa Ivey
has kept a relatively low profile, having split her time overseas
doing voiceover work for a popular cartoon series in Spain and performing periodically around town. While she’s
still working on her music, this Friday night, she’ll be making her
local debut at Celtic Tavern as a member of Potcheen,
lending her vocals, as well as playing guitar and bass. Ivey reportedly brought
the house down during a two-night stand this past weekend with the band
in Salt Lake City at Piper Down.
Rok On: ManeRok, meanwhile, of ManeLine, is striking out on his own. He recently filmed a video for the track “A Game,” which features Es-Nine on the tables and is slated to appear on En Stereo,
an EP due from the pair next summer. The video, directed by Chad
Bardon, was shot for Jookt, America’s High School Sports Network, as
part of Garage, a show that’s currently being pitched
elsewhere. The Pirate Signal and some other local acts also have clips
in the can. While that show is being shopped, Rok is hard at work on
another EP titled The Might Mane Rok Presents the Truth, which is due just after the first of the year. While the ManeLine crew is taking some time off, Inkline, Rok’s fellow MC, is also said to be embarking on a solo endeavor of his own.
