Starting at Skyline Park and continuing through five checkpoints, the Urban Assault Ride is part bike race, part scavenger hunt and part elementary-school field day rolled into one healthy, fun-filled event. However, unlike your traditional bike race, all the checkpoints are available beforehand, allowing each team to plot its own course. At each stop there are different obstacles that could include bike jousting, riding an adult-modified Big Wheel through a maze or negotiating a human wheelbarrow.
“We also throw in three mystery challenges,” says media contact Sharon Cutler. “It could be a riddle or a picture of a statue on the bike path. You have to integrate these extra stops on your preset course.” In all, the ride is twenty to thirty miles long, with checkpoints about every five miles. “We want people to discover that it’s easy to ride around Denver on their bike,” Cutler explains. “You can actually ride from downtown to Wheat Ridge, which is only five miles on the bike path.”
