Cool fall weather always makes me want to sit by the fireplace sipping cocoa and knitting. Unfortunately, I don’t have a fireplace and I’m no good at knitting, but luckily for me and other lovers of handmade crafts, the Denver Handmade Alliance is presenting the Art by Craft market today from 2 to 8 p.m. at The Other Side Arts, 1644 Platte Street.
Today’s market will feature items from more than twenty vendors, including Vital Industries, Stills in Motion, FishyFishy, MMSomewhere, Fantastique Safari and Becky’s Buttons. There will be knitware, jewelry, handbags and wallets, screen printing and health and beauty items for sale, perfect for anyone looking to do some early holiday shopping or snag a one-of-a-kind item for their fall wardrobe.
“There are a lot of really amazing creative people here in Denver, and we wanted a way to bring them all together,” says Alliance representative Becky Wareing, explaining why the group formed last August. “We want to teach people about getting started as a small business and cultivate the love of getting involved in craft.”
The market is the closing reception for an exhibit that opened October 2. “The second you walk in, you can see the exhibit that is up, and you’ll see vendors who you can meet and talk to. There will be craft-based demonstrations going on throughout the day, the local vegan bakery Beet Box will have food and refreshments, and Leopold Brothers, a local small-batch distillery, will be giving tastings from 4 to 8 p.m.,” says Wareing. The first few people through the door will get swag bags; look for giveaways throughout the day and a surprise musical performance.
