I love the annual Gifts for Yule holiday sale more than just about anything, at least anything that has to do with shopping, and here’s why. Sam Robinson’s annual local handmade market is so friendly and so pretty, and the lunchtime fare, prepared by kitchen wizardess Erica MacNeish and sinful Devil’s Food Bakery, is so good, that visiting the market each fall (not to mention its spring-forward sister, the Spring Fling) is like getting together with an old friend. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Indeed, this year’s shopping event brings back Robinson’s usual stable of vendors and merchandise, beginning with her own vintage-inspired holiday kits and fancies. What and who else? There will be shabby-chic giftables from Kate Feinsod’s Pome, fun jewelry and accessories from Joy Barrett of Studio Bead, precious antiques from Amy Doherty’s Pink Attic Cat and Jena Snow’s Apiary, Parisian-flavored gifts from the French Flat, Jil Cappuccio’s fresh designer coats and clothing, restructured sweaters by Pearl, elegant letterpress stationery by Lilywillow Press, and topiaries and charming fairy gardens from Rabbit Shadow Farm, just to get started. And it’s all prettily displayed under the skylit-dome of the Phipps Tennis Pavilion, 3400 Belcaro Drive. Sweet heaven!
