Red Rocks has hosted many memorable concerts, but this summer, the scenic amphitheater is welcoming a different form of entertainment: movies. The Film on the Rocks series is sponsored by the Denver Film Society, Red Rocks and the city of Denver, uniting music and film under a canopy of Colorado sky.

The series made its debut earlier this month with a pre-show concert by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and a presentation of The Godfather. On August 1, Film on the Rocks continues with a performance from Cabaret Diosa (pictured) and a screening of Selena. Future films in the series include Casablanca, Goldfinger, Star Trek and Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, with a different band performing each time. Come prepared for rainy weather, and bring blankets. The next time you’re considering catching a flick at some crowded stadium-seating theater, remember Red Rocks in all of its spacious, prehistoric glory.
