Man, it’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year since the world-famous Cricket On the Hill shut its doors for good. Talk about leaving a gaping hole in the scene. The place was an institution, the iconic equivalent in Denver to CBGB closing in New York, is I think how I put it back when I heard it had closed. Well, the place may be gone, but it’s certainly not forgotten. Nearly a year to the day of its closing, to commemorate its passing and pay homage to its importance to members of the scene, a group of stalwart bands — Cricket staples, King Rat, Buckwild, the Swanks, Wanker and Babihed — are gathering together to play a reunion show tomorrow night at Bender’s Tavern. Bottoms up. This still ain’t no goddamned coffeehouse, you know?
