Still confused about the whole Gothic Lolita thing? What the hell is up with those kawaii dancing mushrooms and furry Pikachu suits? And why do Japanese ganguro girls look like they dried up and died in a tanning bed? Some of us have a lot of questions about Japanese street style, and Janene Hurst and Andrew Novick of Gimme Gimme Pillow Toast aim to hatch a few clues, with help from their Gothic Lolita pal Janora Curtis. All styles will be fair game at the trio’s Harajuku Street Fashion Party, an all-ages pop-culture bash tonight from 8 p.m. to midnight at Hinterland in RiNo.
“We try to throw a big event every year, but typically, they’ve been restricted to Gothic Lolita fashion,” Curtis says. “But this year, we decided to expand our repertoire to include everyone. It’s going to a big party for people dressed crazy.” But she hopes the curious will also show up. “Dressed the way we are, we do get a lot of questions,” she notes. “This will be a good opportunity for people not into the fashion to come and observe.”
