Much of the best comedy comes from improvisation. The scripts are thrown out, and the sudden comedic impulse while under pressure reveals humor that few could have written if they’d sat down with the time to contemplate and dial in a scene. Now, for the second year, Bovine Metropolis Theater will present its improvisation competition, Denver’s Next Improv Star, in front of a live audience.

Brave souls with previous improv experience are invited to audition for the show today at Bovine, 1525 Champa Street. Those interested in auditioning must be over the age of eighteen and should visit www.bovinemetropolis.com to register for an audition time slot. Those wanting to watch the potentially hilarious, potentially embarrassing improvisers need only buy a $5 ticket for the tryouts, which run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.

Contestants will audition in groups of four to be a part of Denver’s Next Improv Star, which will match fifteen players against one another to find the funniest improviser in Colorado. The show opens in January 2011 and will run on Saturday nights at 8 p.m., eliminating players until April, when the winner will be crowned. For more information, call 303-758-4722.
