TV on the Radio

TV on the Radio has always genre-blended its sound to encompass forward-thinking electronics and reverse-engineered soul. The band’s newest effort, Nine Types of Light, might not be the expansive and lush experience of previous endeavors, but it’s still better than most releases the major labels have put out recently. Despite what you might think from the mellow tones purring out of the new record, the band can still rock live, and the typical blinding lights and bowel-moving low tones of its live performances are sure to populate the night’s activities. Nine Types is a toned-down record that focuses more on melody and production than it does mood, but TV still hasn’t strayed too far from its roots. The act will always know that it’s best to lead and not follow.
