Though drag has been a part of the Denver County Fair’s programming since it started in 2011, the county fair-style beauty pageant has now become a full-on production. Crowned Miss Queen of the Denver County Fair 2011 and host of last year’s drag contest, Nuclia Waste will head up the Totally Plowed show at the 2013 edition. Waste will bring her glitter-bearded troupe, the Demented Divas, to the Fashion Stage this Saturday for Plowed, the fair’s first full-on drag show.

“We’re four guys with beards and goatees that dress up in drag; we put glitter in our facial hair and do comedy music songs,” says David Westman, who plays Nuclia Waste.
But the straightforward description doesn’t mean this is any old drag show. With songs like “The Boob Fairy,” “Never Wear Panties to a Party,” “Throbbing Python of Love” and a rendition of “A Lil’ Ole Bitty Pissant Country Place” from The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, the Demented Divas still push the limits. But it’s all in fun.

“I would say it’s PG — it can be a little risqué and naughty, but not vulgar,” says Westman. Meaning the fair is still very much family-friendly, and the Demented Divas show is a part of that.
Like other Divas performances throughout the year, Totally Plowed will be heavy on lyrical parodies and dance numbers, but with a country-and-Western flair. The drag show is interactive, too. “We’ll have a singalong part of the show and some crazy and wild costumes,” promises Westman.
The Demented Divas Totally Plowed show will come off at the Denver County Fair’s Fashion Stage at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 10. The Denver County Fair starts Friday night, and runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the National Western Complex; admission is $5 to $10 (free for children under age three).
