The Chuck Roy Show’s live podcast on indie303.com is never live. “Yeah, no, not at all,” admits Roy, the show’s host. “The whole joke is that we are never live and we’re never where we say we’re going to be. But if you know the secret, you can still listen to the show.” And you can still see the show’s real-life live incarnation tonight, because it will definitely be live. And it will feature some illustrious guests — like comedian Brody Stevens, fresh off an (admittedly minor) appearance in The Hangover II. Haven’t heard of him? That could be because he’s what Roy likes to call a “comic’s comic.”
“I know him from L.A., when I was a warm-up for Craig Kilborn and he was a warm-up for The Best Damn Sports Show,” recalls Roy, elaborating that a warm-up is an off-camera comedian that keeps the studio audience entertained during downtime. “His was a way better gig: Kilborn was a fucking dick. Anyway, we were all just young and trying to make it; we used to perform together at the Improv, and I used to see Brody a ton. He’s brash. I think he’s hysterical. If he upsets everybody in Denver, I almost don’t mind. This is the full Brody.”
But Stevens isn’t the only attraction: The show comes packed with stuff to see, including comics Adam Cayton-Holland, Troy Baxley and Troy Walker (the duelin’ Troys, as we like to call them, although they do not duel), and amazing feats of technology proved by fiddling with the sound and light system at Casselman’s Bar and Venue, 2620 Walnut Street, where it all goes down at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door; for more information, visit www.casselmans.com or call 720-242-8923.
