Steampunk has been carving out its niche a bit more broadly than it used to, and the once unknown subgenre of science fiction has been rising in popularity over the past few years. That’s sure to work to the advantage of the Penny Dread Tales, a new anthology from Runewright books celebrating its release today.
“There’s a purist notion of steampunk out there that deals solely with the Victorian era,” says editor and founder of Runewright, Chris Ficco. “But I tried to mix in what I think qualifies as steampunk, which includes some fantasy and other genres.” The looser definition will allow for readers to get a good grasp of the genre from the eighteen different authors included in the anthology, including several Colorado writers and others from around the world.
Ficco, J.M. Franklin and Laura Givens will be on hand for readings at signings at 3 p.m. today at the Broadway Book Mall, 200 South Broadway, where you can pick up a copy of the anthology for yourself.
