Usually when the Fantastic Hosts throw a party, it’s just for them and their friends, but as local artist and FH member Marie Vlasic points out, they also party in public every once in a while. This season’s “once in a while” is Forbidden Planet, a spectacular public Halloween soiree they’ll put on tonight at Bar Standard, 1037 Broadway. “It’s a group of well-connected people, and they know all the top DJs, and then there are the people like me, who do the crazy decor.” Vlasic explains. “We put on a fantastic party, and then people are all clamoring to come to the next one.”
Here’s your chance. Walking into Forbidden Planet — which Vlasic describes as a “galactic bordello” — will be a retro/sci-fi jolt into the future-past, with a flying-saucer bar, hundreds of twinkling lights, hanging rocks, ’50s space creatures, robots and more than a few Barbarella babes. And that’s not even counting the people in costume!
Crash-land on the Forbidden Planet from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. for dancing to DJs MLe, Mental Milk, Earth, Dubl D, Smark, John Dee, Satori-C and John Perez and other out-of-this-world delights; Admission is $25 at the door. Visit the Facebook event page for information.
