In a couple of weeks, the gold-themed exhibition AU: Exchange, curated by Cortney Stell of the Philip J. Steele Gallery, will open at RedLine Gallery, featuring interpretations of the precious metal by RedLine resident artists. In preparation for the exhibit, RedLine is seizing Stell’s curatorial subject for a different take on both Halloween and its annual fundraising party. The Artist Bacchanal will celebrate all that is gold and glittering — and though it will in some ways still be the gourmet grazing and dancing expected of a benefit ball, it will also channel the artistic spirit.

“This is right in the middle of the gala season,” notes RedLine’s Louise Martorano, “but we’re not doing that type of fundraiser. This is really a party for the artists and for people of all income levels, in keeping with RedLine’s idea of community and access. People will have the opportunity to come out and be the artists themselves for Halloween instead of wearing typical costumes.”

Why gold? “Gold is a big topic of conversation, in terms of the market and global economy; its value is plummeting,” Martorano says. “We thought it would be interesting to bring this very current conversation into an art environment, where you don’t usually see that kind of discussion.”

Bling and gold are suggested attire for party-goers; throughout the event, there will be special performances, a gold-exchange station where you can sell your bling at the market price (15 percent of your gold value will go to RedLine), and a Goldschlager toast with gold-encrusted drag queen Felony Misdemeanor at midnight. For tickets, $40 to $50 (or $150 VIP), go to http://redlineart.org. RedLine is at 2350 Arapahoe Street.
