Earlier this month, we told you about two enterprising local acts — Lonely & the Bear and Katey Laurel — who have chosen to go their own way in mustering up funding for upcoming albums. Now, Denver’s Churchill has set similar sights for the completion of of the band’s first full-length release, Happy/Sad. Like Laurel, the five-piece is utilizing the Kickstarter.com platform as a way to reach a goal of $6,000.
Churchill has spent the last six months recording Happy/Sad, but turned to the Internet funding site to finance the mixing, mastering and physical production of the finished product. The band began its Kickstarter project just three days ago and has already raised close to $900 — a good sign that the album could reach its final stages within the thirty-day time frame. Getting to the chosen monetary goal is important because, as Churchill stresses in the video below the jump, if $6,000 isn’t raised, the band receives no donation at all. Bummer.
