Though not related to the Los Angeles band featuring former members of Mika Miko, Bleachedblonde nonetheless shares some of the gritty garage aesthetic of that act. “Surf Nazi Must Diet” is a clever reference to a Troma film, but it’s also the name given to a hyped-up garage-rock song that comes off like the equivalent of two movies that shouldn’t work together being shown on top of each other — like if you edited all the chase scenes from The French Connection into just over a two-minute loop and showed Beach Blanket Bingo across the top at high speed. The rest of Bleachedblonde has that kind of blown-out quality in the sound, but it’s more reminiscent of Royal Trux at its most abstract.
